When we were younger the biggest music trend that we noticed was that their were a lot of boy and girl groups. Whether it was Backstreet Boys, Hansons, or the Spice Girls they all played the same type of music that was enjoyable. The boy and girl groups had catchy and fun music that we made up dances to with our friends. We were influenced the most by others who were usually older than us; some being siblings, neighbors, or friends.
During our pre-teen, and teenage years band groups were still popular but slowly disappearing. For example, in the band Dream Street the member Jesse McCartney went from band member to solo artist; as did Justin Timberlake from the band N Sync, and many others. Pop and rock music was the most popular around that time. We also began to start experimenting with music, listening to new music depending on the group of our friends at that time. The experiences in our lives started to show through the music we listened to. If we were in a happy, or sad mood it reflected in the song and artist we listened to.
Now the music that is on the radio has more of a party scene feel, and most of the music has a happy upbeat tempo. Hip hop has begun to be very popular because of it's upbeat rthym, catchy lyrics and dance routines. Solo female artists such as Rihanna and Kesha have become very popular. Technology is playing a major role in the music now a days, the talent of an artists voice isn't as important as their individuality and uniquness. We are now branching out on our own with the music we listen to and choosing the types of music that we like.
