Entry #1: Shareen George

1. In “It still Moves, lost songs, lost highways, and the search for the Next American Music” Amanda Petrusich uses so much detail to explain her story. At times throughout the book her details crowd around what she is really trying to convey, and gets the reader confused. I had to go back and reread many sections of the book because she would go off on random rants of insignificant details. But there were times when her detailed descriptions made the book interesting to read, especially chapter four. Petrusich used amazing details to describe the living situations and the house of Elvis Presley. It almost made you feel like you were walking rite through the house with her. This time her details didn’t become a distraction but rather added more clarity to the story.

2. Petrusich made many connections throughout her book. In fact many of her ‘random rants’ was her trying to make the connection between the artists and music. At first they were hard to pick up, but after a while you can see the connection that she was trying to point out. Petrusich would mention weather, appetite, and living conditions to music, and ideas of others, and how it would affect the music they sang and wrote.

3. Petrusich throughout the novel mentions many important people in the music industry. She seems to have very high respect for all of them, and does them all justice by only speaking highly of them. Some of the people she mentions are, Alan and John Lomax, Robert Johnson, and Elvis Presley.
