Entry #1- Nicholas Tsichlis

In It Still Moves: Lost Songs, Lost Highways, and the Search for the Next American Music, Amanda Petrusich examines what Americana once was and what is is considered today. She observes that Americana musicians do not need to resemble trends of pop culture because those types of songs are the types you see on Top 100 charts and Americana music is something you typically don't. She also brings up the fact that even if Americana has slipped away from popular sight, it is still far from dead. This is important because it basically tells us her view of Americana music in that it is still very strong.

Amanda goes on to support Americana by stating that the genre is slowly evolving and gathering new momentum and going more mainstream. I find it interesting that she makes the comparison between changing genres in Americana music to the way America as a country has changed over time. She realizes that Americana doesn't just mean one thing and can always involve different ideas.

Amanda tells us that she lives in Brooklyn, New York and has been living there for quite some time. She tells us she is still learning the mechanics of New York. This brought my attention because it feels like she approaches learning about Americana the same way. New York changes everyday, and therefore it is hard to always have a grip on it and know what exactly is going on. You can have a new experience every day. I feel that she feels the same way about Americana. She's ready to learn about what Americana has to offer and actually absorb the history of it and be open to the ideas of others as they come along.
