Entry #1 Vanassa Patthana

Amanda Petrusich recounts her journey in finding the meaning behind the Americana culture and how it has changed throughout the years in her novel It Still Moves: Lost Song, Lost Highways, and the Search for the Next American Music. Having to believe that good music comes from the South, she travels to Tennessee and Mississippi from what I have read thus far. Her focus was on the blues and rock 'n' roll. She travels by car "because every good story about America is also a story about the road" (17). I believe this statement to be true because Americans often go on road trips, and they result in many memories to think back on.

In the beginning of each chapter, she describes where she is and the musical history surrounding that area rather than giving her own opinions of it. She is open to hearing what others had to say about Americana. I find this rather interesting because it proves that she wants to be not biased, which makes me want to trust her. On the other hand, I still believe that if she gave a little insight of her opinions, her writing would have been even more interesting. This would have helped me understand how Americana is changing or adapting to the present day. But then again, that is also her goal in this novel.
