Entry 1- Anjali Derhgawen

In the novel It Still Moves: Lost Songs, Lost Highways, and the Search for the Next American Music, Amanda Petrusich uses observations to find out what Americana truly is. She goes on a road trip to see what culture is like in other places of America. She observes the culture in other areas and compares it to the experiences that she has had growing up in Brooklyn. This road trip lets her see first-hand what Americana is and how it started.

Secondly, Amanda Petrusich uses questioning to find out why things are the way they are. She continues to ask questions about how Americana originated. She uses the observations that she made and tries to figure out why and how did these observations come to be.

Lastly, Petrusich engages her thoughts with the idea of others. She is looking for facts rather than just a good story. She uses lots of detail so that the reader understands what she is seeing and thinking. She many times throws in a quote that depicts the thoughts of someone else on the topic that is being discussed. This way, the writing is not biased because she will believe what others say, as long as they have facts to back their idea up.
